Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre (MIISC)

The $9 million dollar Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre (MIISC) facility was officially opened on Saturday 19 March 2011. It's one of the biggest investments in a community building by Council.

The centre was named the Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre in honour of former NSW Premier, Morris Iemma who worked tirelessly for the people of our City and played a pivotal role in obtaining the funding which has made this facility a reality.

MIISC is an ultra modern facility and caters for a variety of indoor sports, including netball, basketball, soccer and volleyball as well as incorporating a gym, change rooms, cafeteria and childcare services, and is part of the City of Canterbury's ongoing commitment to improving the quality and range of community infrastructure. The Centre provides our residents with a place to get fit and healthy and participate in another aspect of community life in a safe environment.

The centre features:

  • Health and Fitness Centre
  • Group Fitness Studio
  • Spinning Studio
  • Women's Only Gym
  • Outdoor Training Zone
  • Two Indoor Stadium Courts
  • Creche facilities
  • Ample parking
  • Change rooms

Following construction and commissioning of the facility, the YMCA operates the Centre under a lease agreement from Council. The YMCA is excited to be working with the City of Canterbury Council to deliver a new hub of the community, a place where friends and families can meet, participate in healthy community activities from Sports Programs to Family Health and Fitness and finish their activity with a coffee and laugh. The YMCA has ensured that the MIISC has become a vibrant and significant addition to the local community.

We're all really excited about the MIISC and are sure our residents are reaping the benefits of this community partnership in building strong people, strong families and strong communities.
