Fridge Buyback

Fridge Buyback FlyerCanterbury Council proudly supports the Fridge Buyback program. Fridge Buyback removes old, energy inefficient second fridges from homes.

If you have a working second fridge you no longer need that is:

  • 250 litres or larger and
  • 10 years or older

Call 1800 708 401 or apply online at Fridge Buyback to have it professionally removed from your home. The refrigerant gas in your fridge will be properly removed, the metals in it recycled and you'll be reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In return you will recieve a $35 rebate*, FREE in-home collection by experience removalists*, save up to $190 per year off your electricity bill and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.

Round 6 of Kilowatt Kutters is now open for applications.

Our 70 participating houses have saved an average of:

  • 37.9kL of water per household per year 
  • 97,895 kWh of electricity
  • 171,336 mJ of gas
  • 132 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions
  • $219.32 per household per year. 

To join in, you just need to keep copies of your energy and water bills for 12 months, and in return you will receive FREE an environmental audit of your home to tell you where you can save more energy and water, and the supply and installation of $260 worth of energy and water saving products, FREE!

Council's Environmental Committment

Canterbury City Council strives to ensure a healthy, sustainable and improved environment in the City. We are achieving this aim by implementing a range of strategies. These include:

  • community-based environmental activities including community tree planting events and a rainwater tank rebate scheme
  • the integration of environmental management goals into all aspects of Council's operations, including a number of water-saving initiatives, and
  • the administration and enforcement of environmental controls and regulations to ensure that economic development is balanced against the need to protect and enhance the environmental values of the City.

Council also aims to provide health services for our residents, work in partnership with organisations and individuals to promote a safe, harmonious and cohesive community, and support healthy lifestyles by providing leisure and recreational facilities and activities, including parks and the cycleway.

Saving Energy, Water and Your Money!

 

Residents can save energy, water and money by joining Council's FREE Kilowatt Kutters program, applying for a rebate, or taking up one of Sydney Water's cheap offers. There are many ways to use less energy and water, and save money.
