When is Council approval required?

Council approval is required for all advertising sign development unless otherwise stated in this code Development Control Plan No. 24 - Advertising Signs. Where advertising sign development requires Council consent each application will be considered on merit in accordance with the provisions of Section 90 of the Environmental  Planning and Assessment Act, 1979.

 

Why does Council have a Code for advertising Signs and Banners?

The purpose of this code is to control the visual impact of advertising development on the environment and to provide adequate opportunities for the display of goods and services.

What you must do

If the proposed advertising development requires Council approval you must submit a development application and include copies of plans which show the proposed advertising sign(s). More information on this, including fees, can be found in the code Development Control Plan No. 24 - Advertising Signs. This code applies to all land in the City of Canterbury.
