Summer 2007
Mrs Gladys Allen, a Campsie resident since 1944 and stalwart of the Campsie Salvation Army, passed away in 2006. Mrs Allen was like many people of her time: she reused and recycled. She also kept her children's school books and school clothes. Her daughter, Mrs Margaret Dean, has a keen sense of history, and has donated many items from her mothers house in Campsie to the Local History collection. Margaret has written information about some of the items she has donated, which brings them to life and casts light on the times they were created. A couple are featured here.

Bed Doll
A bed doll was designed to sit on a girls bed, usually with a full skirt, although the skirt on this doll has long disappeared. This doll was given to Margaret Dean nee Allen at the Campsie Salvation Army Primary section Christmas party in 1962. All the girls in the oldest class of the section received a bed doll dressed in colours to match their bedrooms. All were dressed by fellow Salvationist, Mrs Lottie Playford of Campsie.
