Cooks River Stormwater Management Plan

The 13 Local Councils of the Cooks River catchment, working together with State Authorities and the community, have prepared a Stormwater Management Plan for the Cooks River. The Plan aims to improve water quality and the health of the Cooks River by identifying practical and long term solutions to stormwater problems.

The preparation of the Plan is a response to a Direction issued by the Environment Protection Authority under Section 12 of the Protection of the Environment Administration Act, 1991. Through the Stormwater Trust, the State Government has provided funding for the preparation of Stormwater Management Plans for all catchments within NSW. PPK Environment and Infrastructure Pty Ltd, in association with Webb McKeown and Associates Pty Ltd were appointed by the Cooks River Association of Councils to prepare the Stormwater Management Plan.

Cleaning up the Cooks River

Council is on the right track to cleaning up one of our most important assets - the Cooks River.

Our Riverkeeper Service is removing floating litter from the river. The punt collects up to a tonne of rubbish at a time. This means we're removing a large amount of litter from the River on a regular basis.

We're undertaking stormwater improvement works to help prevent rubbish from entering the Cooks River.

We're also working in partnership with neighbouring councils and the state government to find ways to bring new life to the waterway, and find long-term solutions that will improve the health and appearance of the River.

Cleaning uo the Cooks River is a big job but if we all work together we can help the River get back to health, and we'll be making our City a great place to live and work.
