RECORD BREAKING CROWDS CELEBRATE HALDON STREET FESTIVAL
11th Anniversary goes off with a bang!
The 2010 Haldon Street Festival was a massive success with record crowds of 30,000 people enjoying all that the Festival has to offer. It turned out to be the biggest and best we've ever celebrated!
More than 30,000 people, that's 5,000 more than last year, came to Lakemba to join in the community spirit of this year's Festival, with headline act Justice Crew delivering an awe-inspiring performance.
It was great to see so many people come out in support of our community, for the street parade, for 2 stages of entertainment, the street stalls and the rides.
We also introduced a new segment to our entertainment program, Canterbury's Hidden Talent, and it proved to be spectacular, showcasing a number of stars in the making. It was also great to see the audience up and dancing in front of the stages and we've discovered that there are so many talented people in our community!
Among the crowd's favourites were popular Arabic singers Cedars of Lebanon, the Khaled Al Amir Band, Indigenous Hip Hop Projects, plus the Horizon Theatre Company Kids Show, Carribbean Soul and Platinum India.
We had people from hundreds of different cultural backgrounds and religions celebrating side by side - demonstrating the festival's theme of Respect, Unity and Peace and the smiles on people's faces said it all.
2010 will definitely be one of the most memorable Haldon Street Festivals we've ever held and next year is sure to bring more of the same community support and spirit which underlies a festival such as this.
Performances we're thoroughly entertaining, and the performers of Canterbury's Hidden Talent included:
- Ray Isaac - Performing own pop music
- Ali Qureshi - Performing James Brown song - I feel Good
- Mitchel Mutyora - Ballad covers
- Silkman C - Own Music - Hip Hop

One the major drawcards of our festival is the traditional Haldon Street Parade which will kick off celebrations at 10.00am. Over 150 participants make up this fantastic performance with a multitude of colours, characters, rhythms and floats from Arabian, African, Indian, Chinese and Islander backgrounds.
