Road Safety Program
Canterbury Council's Road Safety Program
Improving road safety in Canterbury City is a Council-wide responsibility. Each division of Council plays a role in making our roads safer. Council also works together with other stakeholders including the Police, the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) and the Sydney South West Area Health Service (SSWAHS) to obtain a co-ordinated approach to implementing road safety.
Council also employs a Road Safety Officer who is responsible for implementing education programs with the aim of encouraging members of our community to be responsible and safer road users. Education programs and strategies are developed about several road safety issues including:
- Speeding
- Pedestrian Safety
- Drink Driving
- Driver Fatigue
- Learner Drivers
- Occupant Restraint
- Illegal and Unsafe Parking Outside of Schools
- Bicycle Safety
- Driver Distraction
- Anti Social Driving
