Pre-School Storytime

Storytimes for the City of Canturbury's diverse multicultural community are held for pre-school children at all of our libraries. There are stories, songs and craft activities for children aged 2 and 5 years old, in English, Bengali, Chinese, Korean  and Arabic.

Bring your children along to one of our free story time sessions and enjoy reading, singing and craft with your child.

Our storytime sessions are ideal opportunities for you to spend time interacting with your child while introducing them to books and songs.

For further information phone our Children's and Youth Services Librarian on 9789 9423.

If you child is aged between 0 and 24 months, come along to one of our Bouncing Babies sessions, information is available on our Baby Rhyme Time page.

Girl reading book

Parents can encourage their children to read by following these tips:

»It's never too early to start sharing books with your baby

»Point to pictures in books and talk about them in your home language

»Let your child choose the book and turn the pages

»Stop before turning the page to give your child time to talk about the story

»It's Ok to read the same book over and over. Children love hearing the same stories

»Read to your child in their own language. Speaking and reading to your child in their home language will help them to learn English later

»Talk with your child while cleaning, cooking, watching TV and playing

»Talking, listening and looking are how we learn to read

»Talk with your child while shopping, waiting, walking and driving

»Sing together and say nursery rhymes

»Listen to your child's stories and questions
