Living with Less Waste

People recycling with Waste Not Want Not logoProtecting and preserving our environment is a major priority for Council. That's why every household across our City is allocated three garbage bins:

  • Rubbish goes in the red lid bin
  • Recycling goes in the yellow lid bin
  • Garden vegetation goes in the green lid bin.

In our City, we are currently diverting 42% of total household waste away from landfill sites.

Our multiple-bin system has annually reduced the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill by 10,625 tonnes, increased the amount of recycling by 6,859 tonnes and increased our City's green waste collection by 5,412 tonnes or 122%. The amount of materials collected in our City for re-use has virtually doubled since 2002.

Council, like many of its counterparts, is also looking at Alternative Waste Technologies for the future of waste collection in our City.

To find out more about our Waste Services please phone us on 9789 9300.

We can all do our bit to help protect our environment - one way is to reduce our waste and helps to reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill.

Please dispose of your rubbish properly! Fines could exceed $5,000.

Let's take pride in our City and help us to make it a clean and beautiful place to live in!
