Canterbury City Council stages community and cultural events within our City celebrating the multiculturalism, diversity and energy that defines our community.

Each year, we host a number of major festivals and events for our community to enjoy which are:

  • Australia Day Celebration on 26 January.
  • Campsie Food Festival sees Beamish Street transformed into an international smorgasbord with a variety of international cuisines.
  • Lakemba shines during the Haldon Street Festival as we celebrate our rich cultural diversity and promotes 'Respect, Unity and Peace'.
  • Earlwood Village Festival promotes great community spirit and features local entertainment.
  • Wiley Park comes alive with Christmas cheer during our Carols in the Park, including a spectacular fireworks performance.

Festival fun

The festivals, arts and culture program in the City of Canterbury make artistic and cultural celebrations accessible to all with numerous attractions, all of which are free. Each year promises to be just as well received and exciting as the previous years' celebrations.

By producing high-calibre events with free outdoor festivals, Canterbury City Council's program has gained a diverse and loyal audience. With the generous support of our community and corporate partners, we are able to continuously offer the quality events and attractions that participants and the community have become accustomed to.

By supporting our Community Events you can make a positive contribution to both the cultural lifestyle of our community and the City of Canterbury.

Our talented community

The City of Canterbury encourages artistic expression and is proud of the many talented local artists, musicians and writers who are willing to express and share their ability to the people of Canterbury through the art, music and written work that they create.

So, the next time that one of our events are taking place, we hope to see you there.

Art and the City

Box 8The Boxed Art Project project aims to beatify the City of Canterbury by decorating all traffic signal boxes in vibrant designs painted by community artists. To find out more check out the Boxed Art Project page.

As part of our Multicultural Street Mosaics program, mosaics have been constructed at Earlwood, Campsie, Lakemba and Riverwood. Each mosaic has a distinct theme, for example multiculturalism, young people's experiences, Anzacs or Aboriginal heritage, and features a unifying motto of "Respect. Unity. Peace".
