City Plan and Budget

Planning for our City

This year's City Plan and Budget outlines what we are doing to achieve real improvements in the quality of life for people living and working in the City of Canterbury.

We will spend nearly $102 million on a range of services, projects and infrastructure that will contribute to our environment, vibrant town centres, local businesses and community harmony.

This year, we'll open a new multipurpose community centre at Punchbowl, upgrade Belmore and Punchbowl Town town centres, improve playground facilities, and continue working on the health of the Cooks River with gross pollutant traps and the reconstruction of sections of the river foreshore.

Like most other businesses, council has been affected by the global economic downturn bringing consequences over which council has little or no control. Notwithstanding this, Council has adopted a budget that continues to deliver the high quality services and facilities residents expect.

City Plan

We want the City of Canterbury to be a great place to live and work. This means contributing, through our services and activities, to

  • An Attractive City
  • A Stronger Community
  • A Healthy Environment
  • An Improving Organisation
  • Strategic Leadership

Our City Strategic Plan 2008 - 2017 describes what we are planning to do over the next ten years to achieve these things, with long term goals, outcomes and priorities..  It sets the direction for the other plans that comprise our integrated planning framework.

Our City Plan and Budget 2009-10 describes the activities we will undertake over the next four years to achieve our long term goals and outcomes.  A Strategic Plan shows the Strategies to achieve outcomes in each Theme.  An Operating Plan shows the activities - Services and Initiatives - each functional area of the organisation will undertake, and the Performance Measures we will use.  A Financial Plan shows what we need in terms of resources to undertake these activities.
