The number of older people residing within the City of Canterbury is increasing. As the proportion of older people is increasing Council recognises the need for the provision of aged services.
By identifying this need we have been able to devise strategies to provide direction for Canterbury City Council and senior groups within the community in relation to issues affecting older people.
Through these strategies, we are better equipped to identify existing gaps in services and where possible define strategies to combat this. This will further help us to assist and facilitate the elimination of barriers to participation in society for older people with disabilities.
By providing a rational and systematic method for planning services for older people in the City of Canterbury we are encouraging the ongoing participation of older people in the identification of their needs.
