Family Day Care
We provide a great range of children's services for local families - Family Day Care, Long Day Care, Occasional Care, Vacation Care and Outside Schools Hours Care. The City of Canterbury Family Day Care is one of our most popular services, it offers professional and supervised care for small groups of children in private homes of approved carers.
At City of Canterbury Family Day Care the majority of care is provided for children 0-5 years. There are also limited places for before and after school and vacation care.
Our carers are registered and managed by our council to provide care in their own homes. Hours of care are flexible with a minimum of 8 hours per day and times are agreed on between the carer and the family. Carers regularly attend professional development training sessions, scheme meetings and are visited monthly to gain extra support from staff.
A main benefit of family day care is that children are cared for in a small group with their own carer. This enables special relationships to develops between carers, children and families.
Other unique features of our family day care scheme is the play and learn (playgroup) sessions which provide carers and children the opportunity to come together in a larger group. The City of Canterbury also provide a community bus for staff to drive carers and children to play and learn and excursions throughout the year. Several of the City of Canterbury libraries provide weekly library sessions for family day care children and carers for literacy, music and movement experiences.
