Local Artists

Goodacre artworkThe City of Canterbury encourages artistic expression and is proud of the many talented artists who are willing to express and share their ability to the people of Canterbury through the art that they create.

To assist with this artistic expression, an art exhibition space within Campsie library has fulfilled a requirement in the area. It has provided local artists with the opportunity to put something back into their community and it has enriched many of the thousands of people who use the library every day.

The exhibition space has the potential to develop into something much bigger and has already attracted some of Sydney's finest artists and is continuing to do so. It has hosted a number of displays including the exhibition of photos from Greece by Carmel Stewart.

The success of this art space has shown that art does not only belong in the city and inner suburbs. For too long art has been seen as the exclusive province of Newtown and the Eastern Suburbs, and this will give local artists a place to introduce their work to residents and should be viewed as a small step in bringing art to the people of Canterbury.

Artists interested in displaying their work should contact Campsie Library on 9789 9423.
