Community Development
The Community Development program objective is to ensure the development of services in accordance with local needs and to promote community participation in the planning, management and delivery of services to the community.
Community Development and Social Planning develops and implements Council's social policies. It supports social justice and access and equity programs provided by Council and in the community.
We have a variety of community workers in specific target areas of youth, multicultural, aged and disability services to help develop progams and policies for our community.
Community Safety Officer
Provides focus and aims to prevent crime and promote community safety. The Officer researchs and monitors trends in local crime and consult with the community so that efforts to reduce crime can be effectively targeted. The Officer meets and liaises with Councillors, Police, Canterbury Community Health Centre staff, Council staff and representatives from various community groups as required. Co-ordinator Children's Services
Provides advice to Council on youth matters and supports the development of youth services in the local government area. Supervises Outside School Hours Care and Vacation Care services. For further information phone 9789 9491.

Community Worker Multicultural Services
Co-ordinates Council's Multicultural Policy. Provides advice to Council on multicultural issues and supports migrant services in the Canterbury City area. Community Worker Aged Services
Co-ordinates the management, usage and maintenance of Council's Senior Citizens' Centres. Resources and supports Council's Senior Citizens Advisory Committee. Supports groups and services in the community which cater for older residents of the Canterbury LGA, and initiates, co-ordinates and reviews Council activities and policies for older people. Community Worker Disability Services
Responsible for initiating and co-ordinating activities for disability services within the Canterbury City area. Provides support and advice to community organisations and prepares recommendations and advice to Council on disability issues. Community Information Officer
Develops and provides community information programs through Council's community information service. Supports programs appropriate to local needs and advises Council on community information issues. Responsible for information co-ordination, needs assessment, planning, promotional activities and information provision and referral. The Community Information Officer is also responsible for co-convening the Canterbury Women's Issues Network and works with local community organisations to celebrate International Women's Day.
