A searchable online collection of 10,000 historical and contemporary photographs taken in the City of Canterbury.

Through Pictorial Canterbury we are taken into the living and working lives of our community. This visual snap shot of the City of Canterbury dates from the mid 1800s to the present day and is now available 24 hours, 7 days a week. 

Pictorial Canterbury is a valuable resource for:

The photographs in Pictorial Canterbury illustrate  over 150 years of people, places and events that have shaped the City of Canterbury.

They record the histories of people of different ages, lifestyles and cultural backgrounds as well as reflecting the many changes to our diverse and vibrant community over the years by capturing:

Contribute your photographs

The City of Canterbury Library is continually adding photographs and information to Pictorial Canterbury to make it a living growing collection.

We always appreciate the donation of any photographs of local content. Alternatively, we can copy photographs if you wish to keep your originals.

  1. Survey and Comments Form: for you to help us make the collection as useful to you as possible.
  2. Photograph Identification Form: provided under each photograph for you to help us identify 'mystery' and partly identified photographs in the collection.

Canterbury & District Historical Society

 

The aim of the Canterbury & District Historical Society is to encourage the study of history, both of the Canterbury District and Australia.

 

In addition to this, the Society directs the collection of records and objects relating to Canterbury's history, and to publish journals, periodicals and books relating to the history of Canterbury.
