Every year, community groups are eligible for up to $2,000 under our Financial Assistance Program, with priority given to non-profit voluntary organisations and innovative community development and harmony projects.
Canterbury City Council provides grants to community groups through a Financial Assistance Program. Our goal in offering this program is to support local activities and services which improve our community's lifestyle and meet the needs of our residents.
Through this program we aim to:
- promote a sense of community, community harmony and social cohesion,
- encourage people and organisations to help themselves,
- ensure fair distribution of activities and services throughout Canterbury, and
- encourage resident participation in activities which benefit the community.
We recognise the valuable contribution of voluntary groups in meeting the social needs of our residents. Through the program we aim to support them deliver priority projects and programs to our community. For more information, phone Council on 9789 9300.

Council help for local community groups - a review of our 2008 FAPOur Financial Assistance Program is just one of the ways Council is helping local community groups to continue their wonderful services in our City.
In 2008 Council allocated over $73,000 through our Financial Assistance Program to support a wide variety of important and deserving programs and projects.
These grants are destined to reach all sectors of our City - from children and youth to seniors, our new fellow Australians and beyond to the wider community.
This year's successful applications covered many innovative projects, each designed to contribute to community development and harmony in one way or another.
Many of the groups we have provided funding to rely on volunteers and donations to ensure they can continue helping others. Our grants play an important part in helping them do this. |
